Large Custom Paper Sizes on the Canon BJ-330

ID: Q103734

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.1, 3.11
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c

SYMPTOMS

The Canon Bubble-Jet BJ-330 supports large paper sizes up to 22 inches long. The printer driver for the Canon BJ-330, CANON330.DRV, can accept a page length of up to 22 inches as a user-defined paper size. However, the printer driver does not send the required escape sequence to properly set the page length. The printer ejects the paper after 11 inches.

STATUS

This is a known problem with the CANON330.DRV printer driver.

WORKAROUND

In Microsoft Word, a print field containing the necessary escape sequence to set the page length can be inserted in the header of the document as follows:

  1. Go to the header of the document. From the View menu, choose Header/Footer, select Header, and then choose OK.

  2. From the Insert menu, choose Field.

  3. In the Field Code box, type:

          print "(ALT-027)C(ALT-0<n>)"
where <n> is the page length in lines (for example, 22 inches by 6 lines per inch equals 132). To enter this, hold down the ALT key and type 0132 on the numeric keypad. Other lengths are calculated by multiplying by 6, for example 17 inches would be ALT+0102.

  4. Choose OK.
