Intersection of Objects Prints as Combination to HP Plotter
ID: Q117808
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Windows versions 3.1, 3.11
-
Microsoft Project for Windows, version 4.0
SYMPTOMS
When you print to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) plotter (such as the 7550), in the
intersecting region of any two graphic objects, both of the objects print.
No clipping regions exist for the objects in your project.
For example, in Microsoft Project, if you print your project in the Gantt
Chart view and you have a blue ellipse object on top of a red square, the
intersection of the two objects prints in purple to the plotter. It does
not matter which object is in front of the other. Additionally, if you
print a solid white draw object, the object prints transparent to the HP
plotter; any other objects that intersect with the solid white object print
on top of that object.
CAUSE
This behavior is a function of the plotter printer driver. The same
behavior occurs when you print a worksheet that contains graphic objects in
Microsoft Excel to an HP plotter.
Note that when you view the project in print preview, the objects are
displayed as desired; the color of the object on top is displayed in the
intersection of any two objects.
MORE INFORMATIONSteps to Reproduce Problem
NOTE: These steps assume that the HP plotter is the default printer.
- In a new project in Microsoft Project, choose Drawing from the Insert
menu.
- From the Drawing toolbar, choose the Rectangle button. Drag on the Gantt
chart to create a rectangle.
- Select the rectangle. From the Format menu, choose Drawing, and then
choose Properties. Under Fill, select Blue from the Color list. Choose
OK.
- From the Drawing toolbar, choose the Ellipse button. Drag on the Gantt
chart on top of the rectangle to create an ellipse that overlaps the
rectangle object.
- Select the ellipse. From the Format menu, choose Drawing, and then
choose Properties. Under Fill, select Red from the Color list. Choose
OK.
- From the File menu, choose Print Preview. Note that the red ellipse is
displayed on top of the blue rectangle.
- Choose the Print button.
The intersection of the red ellipse and the blue rectangle prints in
purple, the combination of the overlapped object colors.
