Computer Hangs After Installing Microsoft EasyBall 1.0

ID: Q142406

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft EasyBall version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

After you install the driver included with the Microsoft EasyBall, your computer may stop responding (hang) when you restart it.

CAUSE

This problem can occur with the Point32.exe program included with the Microsoft EasyBall when you are using animated cursors and you have one or more windows open as Windows 95 starts. Point32.exe runs automatically when you start Windows 95 after you install the Microsoft EasyBall.

When you are using animated cursors and the mouse pointer is placed on an open window as Windows 95 starts, your computer may hang when Windows 95 starts Point32.exe.

This problem is known to occur when the following display drivers are installed:

  • Western Digital

  • Diamond SpeedStar 24X (WD)

  • Cirrus Logic

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, close all open windows each time you shut down or restart your computer, or disable animated cursors by choosing a pointer scheme that does not include animated cursors. To change the pointer scheme used by Windows 95, follow these steps:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Mouse.

  2. Click the Pointers tab.

  3. In the Scheme box, select a pointer scheme that does not include animated cursors (such as Windows Standard).
