Cannot Install Network Monitor Components During Batch Setup

ID: Q148737

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to install the Microsoft Network Monitor driver or the Microsoft Network Monitor Agent using Batch Setup.

CAUSE

The Network Monitor Setup file, Nm95setp.dll, makes a call to Windows during installation and expects the response to contain version 4.0. If Windows responds with version 3.1, the installation does not work.

RESOLUTION

This issue is resolved by the following updated file for Windows 95 and OSR2, and later versions of this file:

   NM95SETP.DLL version 4.00.950 dated 3/12/96 11,056 bytes

This updated file expects to receive a Windows version of 3.1 instead of version 4.0.

The latest version of the NM95SETP.DLL file replaces the previous version in the Windows 95 Setup folder. Typically, these locations are:
<Windows Setup folder>\
<Windows Setup folder>\Suwin
<Windows Setup folder>\System

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 and OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2). An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.

This issue does not occur with Microsoft Windows 98.
