SYMPTOMSYou may not be able to install the Microsoft Network Monitor driver or the Microsoft Network Monitor Agent using Batch Setup. CAUSEThe Network Monitor Setup file, Nm95setp.dll, makes a call to Windows during installation and expects the response to contain version 4.0. If Windows responds with version 3.1, the installation does not work. RESOLUTIONThis issue is resolved by the following updated file for Windows 95 and OSR2, and later versions of this file:
This updated file expects to receive a Windows version of 3.1 instead of version 4.0. The latest version of the NM95SETP.DLL file replaces the previous version in the Windows 95 Setup folder. Typically, these locations are: <Windows Setup folder>\ STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 and
OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2). An update to address this problem is now
available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only
to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely
impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend
implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support
for additional information about the availability of this update.
