SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to run Setup for Works, you may receive an error
message relating to the file, Lzexpand.dll. The exact text of the error
message will vary, depending on what version of Works you are
installing, and what version of Windows you are running.
Error Message for Works 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a on Windows 95
Cannot find Lzexpand.dll. Windows needs this file to run a:\Setup.exe
Error Message for Works 2.0 on Windows 95
Setup Initialization Error. Out of Memory or disk space.
Error Message for Works 3.0 on Windows 3.1x
File Error. Cannot find Lzexpand.dll.
After clicking Close, you will see the message:
Application execution error Cannot find the file a:\setup (or one of
its components). Check to ensure the path and file name are correct and
that all required libraries are available.
Error Message for Works 2.0 on Windows 3.1x
File Error. Cannot find Lzexpand.dll.
After clicking Close, you will see the message:
Setup initialization error. Out of memory or disk space.
CAUSE
Any of these errors can occur if the file, Lzexpand.dll is missing from
the \Windows\System directory.
RESOLUTION
Expand the file, Lzexpand.dll from the original Windows setup disk or
CD, then run Works Setup again.
The following table shows the location of the file, Lxexpand.dll depending
on the version of Windows that you are using.

To expand the file, do the following, for your version of Windows.
Windows 95
- Insert the Windows 95 disc into the CD-ROM drive or, if you installed
Windows 95 from a floppy disk, insert disk 1 in the disk
drive.
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click
MS-DOS Prompt.
- Change to the \Windows\System folder by typing the following and
pressing ENTER:
cd system
- If you installed Windows 95 from compact disc, type the following at
the MS-DOS command prompt:
extract <drive>:\win95\mini.cab lzexpand.dll
where <drive> is the CD-ROM drive letter (usually D).
- If you installed Windows 95 from floppy disk, type the following at
the MS-DOS command prompt:
extract <drive>:\mini.cab lzexpand.dll
where <drive> is the floppy drive letter (usually A or B).
- When you finish extracting the file, type the following at the MS-DOS
command prompt and press ENTER:
exit
Windows 3.1x or Windows for Workgroups
- Exit Windows.
- At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following:
expand <drive>:\lzexpand.dl_ c:\windows\system\lzexpand.dll
where <drive> is the floppy disk drive containing the Windows 3.x
disk(usually A or B), and C:\Windows is the location Windows is
installed on your computer. Change the command appropriately if
Windows is located elsewhere.
You should now be able to run Works Setup successfully.
