Inserting Multifunction PC Card May Hang Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you insert certain multifunction PC Cards in a PC Card slot in some computers, the computer may stop responding (hang). When this occurs, you do not hear an audible insertion tone.

This behavior has been observed when a Xircom CreditCard Ethernet+Modem (CEM28) PC Card is inserted in one of the following computers:

Hewlett-Packard Omnibook 4000CT

Hewlett-Packard Omnibook 5500CT

Texas Instruments Extensia 570CDT

RESOLUTION

This issue is resolved by the following updated files for Windows 95 OSR2, and later versions of these files:


   CONFIGMG.VXD  version 4.00.1112  dated 2/11/97  90,529 bytes
   PCI.VXD       version 4.00.1114  dated 2/11/97  42,271 bytes
   CBSS.VXD      version 4.00.1116  dated 2/7/97   16,249 bytes

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2). An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.

This issue is resolved in Microsoft Windows 98.
