You can also obtain the updated features that are included in the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Upgrade if you install Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition.
Before you download a copy of the Msdun13.exe file, search for the file on your computer. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type msdun13.exe, and then click Find Now.
- If you find the Msdun13.exe file, double-click it, and then follow the instructions on your screen to install the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Upgrade.
NOTE: When you install the Msdun13.exe file, you may need your original Windows 95 disks or CD-ROM.
To obtain the Msdun13.exe file on a computer that cannot connect to the Internet, use the appropriate method:
Your Computer Is on a Local Area Network (LAN)
If your computer is connected to a LAN that has a computer with an Internet connection, follow these steps:
- On the computer that has the Internet connection, download the Msdun13.exe file to an empty folder.
- In Windows Explorer, share the folder that contains the Msdun13.exe file. For information about how to share a folder in Windows, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type shared, and then double-click the shared folders topic.
- Create a connection to the shared folder and copy the Msdun13.exe file to your computer. For information about how to connect to a shared folder in Windows, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type connecting, and then double-click the connecting to network drives topic.
- Double-click the Msdun13.exe file on your computer, and then follow the instructions on your screen to install the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Upgrade.
NOTE: When you install the Msdun13.exe file, you may need your original Windows 95 disks or CD-ROM.
- If you are prompted to keep a later version of a file during the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Upgrade installation, click Yes.
- Restart your computer.
Computer Is a Stand-Alone Computer
To obtain the Msdun13.exe file and copy it to a stand-alone computer, you need to use a second computer that has an Internet connection, and then follow these steps:
- On the computer that has the Internet connection, download the Msdun13.exe file to an empty folder.
- Obtain two blank 3.5-inch floppy disks.
NOTE: The Msdun13.exe file is larger than 2.3 megabytes (MB) in size and exceeds the capacity of a single 3.5-inch disk.
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.

- On the Backup tab, navigate to the folder that contains the Msdun13.exe file, and then click it.
- Click to select the Msdun13.exe check box, and then click Next Step.
- Insert a disk into drive A, click 3.5-inch Floppy (A:) to select the floppy disk drive, and then click Start Backup.
- In the Backup set box, type msdun13, and then click OK.
- When you are prompted to insert the second disk into drive A, remove the first disk, insert the second disk, and then click OK.
- When the backup procedure is complete, click OK, and then click OK again.
- Remove the disk from drive A, and then quit Microsoft Backup.
- On your stand-alone computer, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.

- On the Settings menu, click Options, click Alternate location on the Restore tab, and then click OK.
- Insert the second disk of the Msdun13 backup set into drive A.
- On the Restore tab, click 3.5-inch Floppy (A:) to select the floppy disk drive, click Msdun13, and then click Next Step.
- Navigate to and click to open the folder that contains the Msdun13.exe file, click to select the Msdun13.exe check box, and then click Start Restore.
- On the Browse for Folder dialog box, click Desktop, and then click OK.
- When you are prompted to insert the first disk into drive A, remove the second disk, insert the first disk, and then click OK.
- When you are prompted to insert the second disk into drive A, remove the first disk, insert the second disk, and then click OK.
- When the restore procedure is complete, click OK, and then click OK again.
- Remove the disk from drive A, and then quit Microsoft Backup.
- On the Windows Desktop, double-click the Msdun13.exe file, and then follow the instructions on your screen to install the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Upgrade.
NOTE: When you install the Msdun13.exe file, you may need your original Windows 95 disks or CD-ROM.
- If you are prompted to keep a later version of a file during the Dial-Up Networking 1.3 Upgrade installation, click Yes.
- Restart your computer.
