ID: Q71904

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.0, 3.0a
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a

SYMPTOMS

In versions 1.x of Microsoft Word for Windows, the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet IIIsi driver version 3.77 (HPPCL5A.DRV) may print to the lower (rear) output bin rather than to the upper output bin.

WORKAROUND

To force the HP LaserJet IIIsi to print to the upper output bin, follow one of the two procedures below.

Changing Printer Output Specifications from Word for Windows 1.x

  1. From the File menu, choose Printer Setup.

  2. In the Printer Setup dialog box, choose the Setup button.

  3. In the LaserJet IIIsi dialog box, choose the Options button.

  4. Under Output Bin, select the Upper option button.

  5. Choose the OK button.

Changing Printer Output Specifications from Windows Program Manager

  1. From the Program Manager, run Control Panel and choose the Printers icon.

  2. Select the LaserJet IIIsi printer from the Installed Printers box, and choose the Setup button.

  3. From the LaserJet IIIsi dialog box, choose the Options button.

  4. Under Output Bin, select the Upper option button.

  5. Choose the OK button.

NOTE: Once you specify a particular bin for printer output, subsequent print jobs continue to print to that specified bin until you change the selection on the printer's control panel or change the printer specifications through a software application.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the HPPCL5A.DRV driver version 3.77. This problem was corrected in the HPPCL5A.DRV driver version 30.3.85, which is shipped with version 2.0 of Word for Windows.
