Unable to Print Text on NEC P5300 Printer

SUMMARY

The NEC P5300 printer prints graphics but not text if you use the Windows 3.0 printer driver for the NEC 24-Wire Pinwriter family. You can print text using the Epson LQ-2500/2550 driver for this printer, although it doesn't provide all the capabilities of the NEC printer.

NEC has developed its own Pinwriter printer driver that includes support for the P5300. Microsoft has not tested this printer driver.

This information applies to Windows 3.0 and 3.0a and does NOT apply to later versions of Windows.

NEC has developed a driver (NECPNSER.DRV) version 1.370 that supports the following NEC printers:

NEC has tested this driver and the following is a list of known limitations that are currently being worked on by NEC.

Microsoft Excel version 3.0, when Page Setup is chosen from the File menu, an unrecoverable application error (UAE) appears and the application quits.

Courier 12, 15, and 17 pitch cannot be accessed. Only 10 and 20 pitch are available.

In most Windows applications, the left margin is increased by approximately 0.25 inch.

Pressing the Form Feed button on the printer after printing from Windows advances the paper only 8.5 inches instead of 11.

When headliner font cards such as Times 18/24 and Helvetica 18/24 are installed in the driver, the 18- and 24-point sizes may not appear in the application font list. This problem occurs only when a sheet feeder is installed and Bin 1 or 2 is chosen from the Paper Source menu. When Continuous is selected, all font sizes appear in the application font menu.

In Microsoft Word for Windows and Microsoft Write, text on multipage documents moves down approximately 1/16 of an inch on each page.
