TrueType Fonts Print Only in Black or White on HP III

ID: Q84951

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.1, 3.11
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 3.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 2.0

SUMMARY

Colored TrueType fonts print as either black or white when printed to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet III, IIID, IIIP, or IIISI using the HPPCL5A.DRV, version 3.89, printer driver that ships with Microsoft Windows version 3.1. This driver does not support grayscale TrueType fonts.

Applications such as version 3.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows and version 2.0 of Microsoft Word for Windows can create documents that have colored TrueType fonts (for example, red letters). When these documents are printed, the TrueType fonts print as either black or white, depending on document background.

There is no workaround for this limitation.
