UNIDRV.DLL Does Not Hold Printer Resolution Changes

ID: Q85224

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

The UNIDRV.DLL files, dated 3/10/92 and 3/26/92, do not properly remember changes to the printer resolution when these changes are made within an application. For example, when you are running Microsoft Excel version 4.0 and choose Print from the File menu, you can change the current print quality and choose the OK button to print. However, if you choose Print from the File menu again, the print quality is reset to the original default value.

WORKAROUND

  1. Run Control Panel.

  2. Choose the Printers icon.

  3. Select the appropriate printer, then choose the Setup button.

  4. In the Resolution box, select a new resolution, and choose the OK button.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the UNIDRV.DLL file included with Windows 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
