Clear Bands in Shaded Areas with the TI MicroLaser PS

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When a shaded region is printed from a document running under Microsoft Windows 3.1 to a Texas Instruments (TI) MicroLaser printer in PostScript mode, a horizontal clear band may appear every 1.25 inches in the printout of the shaded region.

NOTE: This problem also occurs with a Hewlett Packard LaserJet Series IIIsi in Postscript mode.


WORKAROUND

Use the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Series II emulation mode when you want to shade large regions of your document. This problem does not occur if you are in the MicroLaser's HP LaserJet Series II emulation mode.

Steps to Reproduce this Problem

  1. Set the TI MicroLaser into PostScript mode.


  2. Run version 2.0 of Word for Windows.


  3. Enter 15 lines of text and select the lines.


  4. From the Format menu, choose Border.


  5. Choose the Shading button and select 5% from the Pattern list box.


  6. Choose the OK button twice.


  7. From the File menu, choose Print.


The output will have a thin, horizontal, white line every 1.25 inches.
