Support for the HP PaintJet XL300 in the Windows Environment

SUMMARY

The Hewlett-Packard (HP) PaintJet XL300 is supported by the HPPCL5C.DRV driver, which Hewlett-Packard distributes with the printer. This driver provides printer support in Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.0 and 3.1 and provides access to TrueType fonts.

The HP PaintJet XL300 is a color inkjet printer that is functionally compatible with the HP LaserJet IIIsi and supports the HP PCL Level 5 printing language. Hewlett-Packard will soon provide an option for this printer to support Adobe PostScript Level 2.

Three versions of the HP PaintJet XL300 driver (HPPCL5C.DRV) have been released:

Version 1.0

Original version of the driver.

Version 1.01

Corrects the following problems:
  1. Gradient-shaded circles print solid in version 3.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows and in IBM Arts & Letters.


  2. A general protection (GP) fault error occurs when a multiple-page document is printed from version 2.0 of Microsoft Word for Windows if you are using a TrueType font and Adobe Type Manager (ATM) version 2.0 is running.


  3. Insufficient disk space is not detected when installing driver.


Version 1.02

Corrects the following problems:
  1. Cell borders cannot be printed in versions 3.0 and 4.0 of Microsoft Excel for Windows.


  2. The Device Not Selected and Transmission Retry settings must be changed to 900 to avoid time-out error messages.


Version 1.10

Corrects the following problems:
  1. Draft mode does not work on all pages with Microsoft Word 2.0.


  2. Darkness slider doesn't work when "None" is chosen in the Adjust Printed Colors menu.


  3. Adobe Illustrator and Freelance for Windows graphic files do not print correctly.


  4. Corel Corporation CorelDRAW! version 3.0 and PhotoPaint version 3.0 bitmap images cause UAEs or GPFs.


  5. Full page landscape raster image in Corel PhotoPaint does not print with an even right margin.


  6. Graphics from Arts & Letters imported into Microsoft Word 2.0 do not print correctly.


To obtain the latest version of the HPPCL5C.DRV driver, call HP Distribution at (303) 353-7650. You can also obtain the driver from the HP Peripherals Forum on CompuServe by typing "GO HPPER", selecting Library 6, and downloading the file PJ3WIN.ZIP.

The same versions of Intellifont for Windows (IFW) that support the HP LaserJet Series printers also support the PaintJet XL300: IFW version 1.15 for Windows version 3.0 and IFW version 1.20 for Windows 3.1. To obtain a free copy of IFW, call HP Distribution at (303) 353-7650.
