ID: Q86476

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When using the Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1 PSCRIPT.DRV driver version 3.52 and printing to an IBM PostScript printer, you may receive the following error message on the printed output:

Offending Command

RESOLUTION

This problem was corrected in version 3.53 of PSCRIPT.DRV.

MORE INFORMATION

The following printers may exhibit this problem:

  • IBM Laser Printer 4019 PS17 (IBM17521.WPD)

  • IBM Laser Printer 4019 PS39 (IBM39521.WPD)

  • IBM Personal Pageprinter

  • IBM Personal Pageprinter II-30

  • IBM Personal Pageprinter II-31

When you select most of the PostScript printers that come with Windows 3.1, you are actually installing two files. The first file is PSCRIPT.DRV, which is the PostScript driver, and the second is a Windows printer definition file (.WPD) that further defines the PostScript driver with usable features such as paper sizes and sources.

"Offending Command" is the most common Postscript error message that you will receive in Windows. This is not exclusive to the 3.52 version of the PSCRIPT.DRV file.
