Original HP LaserJet Runs Out of Memory with TrueType Fonts

ID: Q86498

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.1, 3.11
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.x, 2.0, 2.0a
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 3.0

SUMMARY

The 128K of standard memory that comes with the original Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printer is not enough memory to print a full page of Windows 3.1 TrueType fonts at 300 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution. Only a quarter of the page prints using this configuration.

MORE INFORMATION

At one time, HP offered an upgrade that made the original LaserJet equal to the LaserJet Plus and capable of printing TrueType fonts at 300 dpi. This upgrade is no longer available, so original LaserJets that have not been upgraded will run out of memory when trying to print more than approximately a quarter page of TrueType fonts.
