Patterned Shading Prints as Normal Shading

ID: Q93502

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.0, 3.0a, 3.1, 3.11
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 3.0
  • Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.0a

SYMPTOMS

If you apply patterned shading (such as the Bricks pattern) to a selection and print to a printer at 360 x 360 resolution, the shading appears to print as normal, unpatterned shading.

CAUSE

This occurs because, at 360 x 360 resolution, the bricks print so small that they appear to be normal dots instead of bricks.

For example, if you apply Bricks shading to a Microsoft Publisher file and print to a Canon BJ-10E printer using printer driver version 1.15 for Windows version 3.1, the shading prints as if you applied 40-percent gray formatting instead of the patterned formatting.

RESOLUTION

Change the resolution to a lower setting in the Printer Setup dialog box. This causes the patterned shading images (such as bricks) to print large enough to be recognized.

STATUS

This was corrected in Microsoft PowerPointfor Windows 95, version 7.0 and Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows.
