SUMMARY

When you print a document to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 550C using the HP printer driver version 3.0 (DESKJETC.DRV) for Windows version 3.1, the margins print incorrectly. To print correct margins, use the Microsoft HP DeskJet 550C monochrome printer driver version 2.0 (HPDSKJET.DRV) for Windows version 3.1.

MORE INFORMATION

The DESKJETC.DRV printer driver adds space to the bottom margin and subtracts space from the top margin of your document, thereby shifting your document up on the page. If your document contains a header or footer, the driver also adds space to the left margin and subtracts space from the right margin, thereby shifting your document to the right on the page. Sometimes this may truncate the header or footer text. The following examples illustrate the behavior of the HP DeskJet 550C printer driver version 3.0:

Example 1

Orientation: Portrait
Top Margin: 1 inch
Bottom Margin: 1 inch
Left Margin: 1.25 inches
Right Margin: 1.25 inches
If you print a document formatted with the above page settings using DESKJETC.DRV, the printer driver adds .25 inch to the bottom margin (the new bottom margin is 1.25 inches) and subtracts .25 inch from the top margin (the new top margin is .75 inch).

Example 2

Orientation: Portrait
Header/Footer From Edge: 0.5 inch
Top Margin: 1 inch
Bottom Margin: 1 inch
Left Margin: 1.25 inches
Right Margin: 1.25 inches
If you print a document formatted with the above page settings using DESKJETC.DRV, the printer driver shifts the top and bottom margins as described in Example 1 above. In addition, it subtracts .25 inch from the right margin (the new right margin is 1 inch) and adds .25 inch to the left margin (the new left margin is 1.50 inches). The header prints correctly.

If you change the Header/Footer From Edge setting to less than 0.4 inch in Example 2, the header or footer does not print. At 0.4 inch, the header or footer text is truncated.
