Genoa 7900 Driver Causes Video Distortion in Cinemania

ID: Q96057

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.0, 3.0a, 3.1, 3.11
  • Microsoft Cinemania 1992 editions

SYMPTOMS

If you use the MMTLLO.DRV video driver (dated 6/23/92) supplied by Genoa for their model 7000 and 7900 video cards, some black and white photos in the Microsoft Cinemania gallery may appear blotchy or poorly defined. This also happens when you use the MMTLLO.DRV or other Genoa video drivers supplied with cards marketed by other companies.

This also seems to be the case with the Genoa 8000 card. Images are either distorted or extend off of the screen. The error message when starting the application states that a resolution of 640x480 rather than 640x432 is required. Switching to an et4000 640x480 driver seems to clear up the problem.

WORKAROUND

The Genoa video card (and other cards that use Genoa drivers) contain the Tseng Labs ET4000 chip set. As a result, you can use the Tseng Labs ET4000 video drivers. These drivers offer the same resolution choices but do not cause display distortions in Cinemania.
