SUMMARY

When you use a modem not listed on the remote access service (RAS) list of supported modems, you should select a modem from the list that operates at the same maximum bit rate as your modem. If the selected modem speed settings do not match your modem, the following misleading error message may occur when you download a file:

Drive is full or write protected.
When this happens, the download operation usually fails.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, if you select the Multitech 224E modem from the RAS list for use with your Multitech 932E modem, the above error occurs. Although the Multitech 932E and 224E are similar modems, they connect at different bit rates by default. Your 932E modem connects at 9600 bits per second (BPS). (This is the default setting. However, RAS assumes the connection is at 2400 BPS, which is the maximum bit rate for the 224E modem. As a result, the above error message occurs and RAS fails to copy most files.

To avoid this problem, select a modem from the RAS list that features the same maximum bit rate as your modem, or use the instructions supplied with RAS to add support for your unlisted modem.
