Problem 1: Printer Driver Version Different from Control Panel
Recommend: Search for two HPPCL5A.DRV files and remove the one in the Word for Windows directory.

Recommend: Use HPPCL5MS.DRV version 2.1.

Problem 3: Shaded Table Prints Vertical Gridlines on HP LaserJet

Problem 4: White Text with Black Shading Prints as Black Text
Recommend: Use the workaround below.
Select the text to be printed in the reverse color of the background.

From the Format menu, choose Character, select White from the Color box, then choose the OK button.

From the Format menu, choose Border, and choose the Shading button. Select the Custom option button, select Dk Blue under Background, then choose the OK button.

From the File menu, choose Print Setup, then choose the Setup button. Choose the Options button, select the "Print TrueType as Graphics" check box, then choose the OK button.

Problem 5: Large File Size When Printing TrueType Fonts to a File
Recommend: Use the workaround below.

If your printer prints TrueType fonts as rasterized graphic images, the size of the print file may become very large because the instructions for printing fonts as graphics are much longer than the instructions for downloading TrueType or printer fonts.

In the printer driver setup box, select the "Use Printer Fonts for all TrueType Fonts" check box. This setting causes your printer to substitute printer-resident fonts for TrueType fonts and therefore substantially reduces the print file size.

Corrections and Added Functionality:

A problem in the DevInstall code (which was added to upgrade over HPPCL5A) prevents you from installing the LaserJet III if the IIIP, IIID, IIISI, or IIISI PostScript printers are already installed. This problem was corrected in 2.1.

The GP fault that occurs in ExtDeviceMode on models other than the LaserJet III was corrected. This problem is caused by a mismatch of arrays between the code and the resources. The problem actually exists on both 286 and 386 machines, but it only appears on 286 machines due to differences in how the two kernels allocate memory.

A check for failure in LockResource in extremely tight memory situations was added.

Support for an envelope tray was enabled for the III and IIIP models.
