Garbled, Misaligned, or Missing Output on Panasonic KX- P2123

SYMPTOMS

When you print color graphics, borders or TrueType fonts to the Panasonic KX-P2123 printer, the printed output may contain extra and garbled text or misaligned and missing text.

CAUSE

This is caused by an incompatibility between the printer driver and the printer ROM version.

This problem occurs with the EPSON24.DRV and early versions of the PANSON24.DRV because these drivers do not send a carriage return (CR) character between color passes in graphics mode. Instead, these drivers send multiple absolute positioning commands. The Panasonic KX-P2123 ROM version A does not correctly flush the printer buffer until it receives a CR.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

• Print using version 2.1 or later of the PANSON24.DRV printer driver.

• Upgrade the ROM on your Panasonic KX-P2123.

The problem occurs if you print color border art from Microsoft Publisher or color TrueType fonts from Word for Windows using a version of the PANSON24.DRV printer driver earlier than 2.1 or the EPSON24.DRV printer driver.

This problem only occurs if your Panasonic KX-P2123 printer contains ROM version A. To find the ROM version of the KX-P2123 printer, hold down the LF button on the printer while you turn on the printer. This prints a self test, in which the first line lists the ROM version. Panasonic encourages customers with ROM version A of the Panasonic KX-P2123 to contact Panasonic Technical Support for an upgrade to ROM B.

NOTE: Some Panasonic KX-P2123 printers contain ROM version C. Starting with this version, the KX-P2123 contains a new main logic board in which the ROM code is the same as ROM version B.

The Panasonic KX-P2123 printer drivers distributed by Panasonic include a workaround to send a CR between each color pass. As a result, these versions of the drivers print color graphics, borders, and TrueType fonts correctly on KX-P2123 printers that contains ROM version A.
