SUMMARY

The Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet Series Driver version 3.1 is available from Hewlett-Packard Distribution Center and the HP forum on CompuServe.

MORE INFORMATION

The following problems are corrected in the 3.1 release:

  • Intuit Quicken 2.0. Color graphs now print in color. You must set the application to print in color. From Graph, choose Preferences, then select Print in Color. Quicken incorrectly interfaces with the version 3.0 driver and uses settings common to all printer models (that is, black and gray scale). The driver was corrected so that the settings returned are printer model specific. Future versions of Quicken will include fixed calls.

  • Micrografx Designer 3.1. Printing white-filled text with a dark background works correctly when standard dithering is used. With the version 3.0 driver, the text prints as an outline.

  • Microsoft Project 3.0. Starting and ending shapes (for example, milestone markers) now print in color in Standard dither. The version 3.0 driver prints the beginning and end shapes with a black fill in Standard dither. Pattern, Cluster, and Scatter dithers still do not print in color cross-hatching. Color cross-hatching can print in standard dither only.

  • Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0b and Microsoft Draw. Graphics created with Draw now print as displayed. Using certain video drivers, graphics created in Draw with the 3.0 driver fill with unwanted colors or patterns.

  • Microsoft Works for Windows 2.0. Pie charts now print in color. The 3.0 driver prints the chart in shades of cyan and magenta. In addition, the [STATDLL] section of the WIN.INI file must be updated to include the PAGESCAN=N line. Also, from within Works, choose Display Colors As Printed form the Options menu. Without this latter option selected, colors may not be the same as those displayed on your screen.

  • Microsoft Money for Windows 2.0. Corrected problems with printing color charts.

  • PageMaker 4.0. Dotted and dashed borders print correctly now. With the 3.0 driver, only corners of these types of borders print.

  • LAN-Installed Windows. HPSETUP installation now works on systems that run Windows from a network server. With the 3.0 driver, you receive an error message saying it is unable to find the necessary setup files and then the program closes prematurely.

  • TrueType and Windows 3.1. With the 3.0 driver, tall (60-point or larger) text formatted with a drop shadow prints with the shadow on top of the text. White TrueType on a colored background with the driver set to standard dither prints as blocks. Tall text and text with a colored background using TrueType fonts print correctly with the 3.1 driver.

  • Scatter Dither. Reset the color threshold for color matching so that it includes the very light-colored yellows, then adjust cyan, magenta, and yellow to values that are visible on the page.
