When you start Windows, you may receive the following error message:
After you receive this error message, Windows starts normally. CAUSE
This behavior can occur if one or more of the following files exists in
the root folder of the boot disk:
RESOLUTIONRename the files with .w40 extensions to names with an extension other than .w40. Rename the files with .dos extensions to names with an extension other than .dos. MORE INFORMATION
When you boot Windows to the previous operating system, it renames the
existing Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, Command.com, and Msdos.sys files to
files with an extension of .w40. It then renames the previous versions of
these files from the .dos extension to the normal extension.
