33.6 Modem Detected as 28.8

SYMPTOMS

High speed modems (faster than 28.8 Kbps) may be detected as 28.8 modems.

CAUSE

Windows may not contain any hardware information about newer, faster modems.

RESOLUTION

Consult the manufacturer's documentation regarding the Windows installation instructions. A disk may be provided by the manufacturer with your 33.6 or higher speed modem; this disk should contain the needed .inf file for a successful installation.

If no disk is provided, contact your hardware manufacturer for installation instructions.
