Zoom V.34I Internal 28.8 Modem Detected as Standard Modem

ID: Q178353

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Add New Hardware wizard, the Zoom V.34I modem may be detected as a standard modem, even though the modem is included in the hardware list.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Zoom V.34I modem included in the hardware list is not a 28.8 modem and the actual installed modem is a 28.8 modem.

RESOLUTION

To install the modem correctly, you need to provide the manufacturer's driver disk.

To install the modem using the manufacturer's driver disk, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the Modems icon.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Click the "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list" check box to select it, and then click Next.

  5. Click Have Disk.

  6. In the Copy Manufacturer's File From box, type the path to the disk containing the manufacturer's driver files, and then click OK.

  7. Follow the instructions on the screen.

If you do not have the manufacturer's driver disk, please contact the modem's manufacturer to obtain the appropriate drivers.

These drivers are available as a file named Muupg.exe from Zoom's Web site at:
http://www.zoomtel.com/files/drivers.html
