SYMPTOMSWhen you run a DirectX-based program, your monitor may display a black screen or may display only wavy lines on a black background. CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the DirectX-based program changes the default
refresh rate your display adapter sends to the monitor.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
Change the Refresh RateIn Windows 95, display adapter drivers generally do not offer the capability to change the display adapter's refresh rate setting. Consult the display adapter's documentation or manufacturer for information about how to change the refresh rate and check for the availability of updated drivers that support this capability. Some third-party vendors also offer programs with this capability.In Windows 98, you can change the refresh rate using the Display tool in Control Panel. To do so, follow these steps:
