SYMPTOMSWhen you click Settings in the System File Checker tool, and then click Restore Defaults on the Advanced tab, the Default.sfc file may not be restored. CAUSEThis problem occurs because you are not prompted to restart your computer. You must restart your computer for the Default.sfc file to be available. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, restart your computer after you run System File Checker. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98. MORE INFORMATION
