SYMPTOMS
While you are installing Windows 98, you may receive the following error
message during the ScanDisk portion of Setup:
CAUSEThis behavior can occur if you are using a real-mode Novell NetWare client, and there is not enough free conventional memory to continue with Windows 98 Setup. RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use either or both of the following methods:
Method 1Increase the amount of free conventional memory, and then run Windows 98 Setup again. To increase the amount of free conventional memory, use either or both of the following methods:

MORE INFORMATIONIf you run ScanDisk for MS-DOS or ScanDisk for Windows 95, you do not receive the error message.
