Error Message: SGL.DLL File Cannot Start

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start a Direct3D-based program, you may receive the following error message:

SGL.DLL file cannot start


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have a PowerVR 2 3D accelerator installed in your computer.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click System.


  2. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the System Devices branch to expand it.


  3. Click PCI Bus, and then click Properties.


  4. Click the IRQ Steering tab.


  5. If your computer uses Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) features, click to clear the "Get IRQ table using MS Specification table" check box.


  6. If your computer does not use Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) features, click to clear the ""Get IRQ table using ACPI BIOS" check box.


  7. Click OK, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

The Sgl.dll file is a dynamic-link library (DLL) file used by the driver for the PowerVR 2 3D accelerator. Because it cannot be loaded, Direct3D- based programs cannot start.
