Playback Volume Level Changes Are Not Saved on ESS 1887

ID: Q188179

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you change the playback volume level on an ESS 1887 sound card and then restart your computer, the playback volume level may return to its original setting.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the ESS Record Waveout volume control saves its volume level information in the registry last, overwriting the standard Windows volume control information.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Record Waveout volume control to adjust both playback and record volume settings.
