QuickTime Does Not Play Movie Files on a Secondary Monitor

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use QuickTime version 2.x or 3.0 to view a movie file on a monitor other than your primary monitor, the movie may not play correctly, it may not play at all, or your computer may stop responding (hang).

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, do not run QuickTime on a monitor other than your primary monitor, and edit the Optimize= line in the Qtw.ini file to read "Optimize=BMP" (without quotation marks). To do so, use any text editor (such as Notepad) to edit the Qtw.ini file, edit the Optimize= line to read "Optimize=BMP" (without quotation marks), save the file, and then restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this behavior is not caused by a problem in Windows 98, but may be caused by design changes in Windows 98. For more information about resolving this issue, contact the program's manufacturer.
