"Don't Show Last User At Logon" Policy Does Not Take Effect

ID: Q189581

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

When you use System Policy Editor (Poledit.exe) to set the "Don't show last user at logon" policy for a policy file, the change does not take effect the next time you log on to the computer.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the registry is not updated with the new policy information until after you log on to the computer. This results in a delay of one logon before the new policy setting is implemented.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, log off and then back on to the computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The "Don't show last user at logon" policy prevents the name of the last user who logged on to the computer to be displayed in the User Name logon box.

For more information about system policies and using System Policy Editor, please see Chapter 8 of the Microsoft Windows 98 Resource Kit.
