SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) to
Windows 98 on a Compaq Presario 1065 computer, you may experience any the
following symptoms:
- The Presario 336-vsc modem included with the computer does not work
properly, and Device Manager displays a "Code 25" error for the modem.
- The computer stops responding (hangs) when starting Windows 98.
- A mouse connected to the COM1 port stops responding.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, install the Presario 336-vsc modem driver
included on the Compaq Quick Restore CD-ROM. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS Prompt.
- Insert the Compaq Quick Restore CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and
insert a blank, formatted disk into the A drive.
- At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after
each line
<cdrom>:
cd\cpqdrv\ccsd
qurst5
a:setup
exit
where <cdrom> is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
MORE INFORMATION
If you install the Presario 336-vsc modem driver included with OSR2,
Windows 98 detects the modem as Unknown Wave Device For Modem. This does
not affect the performance of the modem.
