Problem Installing MAX2 with DirectX 6.0 Installed

SYMPTOMS

If DirectX 6.0 is installed on your Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer, you may not be able to install Interplay MAX2 from the screen that opens automatically when you insert the MAX2 CD-ROM.


RESOLUTION

Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the root folder of the MAX2 CD-ROM, and then double-click the Setup.exe file. Click No when you are prompted "Newer version of DX is on CD install it?". Select your installation type and then follow the instructions on the screen.

When you insert the MAX2 CD-ROM, a screen open automatically and you receive the following prompt:

Click 'Install' - DX must be installed before installing the game, install dx5?

If you click Yes, you see the following message:
DX5 successfully installed, please check the CD for newer drivers

When you click OK, you return to the original screen.

If you click No, you return to the original screen.

No matter which options you click, the game is not installed.
