Two PC Cards Detected for Every One Inserted Into Your Computer

ID: Q191364

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Windows 98, you may experience one or both of the following symptoms:

  • Two PC Card (PCMCIA) devices are detected for every one inserted into your computer.

  • An additional Texas Instruments Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) 1130 CardBus controller is displayed in Device Manager.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using a Dell Xpi CD Latitude laptop computer with Phoenix Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) version A04.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, obtain the A10 BIOS revision from Dell Computer Corporation's Web site or Dell Technical Support.

MORE INFORMATION

After you install the BIOS revision, device detection functions properly, but there are still two Texas Instruments PCI 1130 CardBus controllers displayed in Device Manager. This is normal behavior because Device Manager displays one controller for each socket.
