SYMPTOMS
An embedded hyperlink that points to an object on a Novell NetWare 4.xx
server may not work. The error message you receive varies depending on
which program is used to create the document containing the hyperlink. If
Microsoft WordPad is used, the error message may be as follows:
If Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel is used, the error message may be:
CAUSEThis behavior can occur if the Microsoft Client for NetWare Directory Services (NDS) is installed and the file being linked is located on a NetWare 4.xx server running NDS. Windows 95 and Windows 98 treat the NDS and Bindery systems as separate file systems. Network Neighborhood displays both the server and an NDS tree that represent the two file systems. To create a hyperlink to a document you must point to the appropriate file system. Mapped drives do not fully implement the NDS file system. RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, the path to the object being linked must use a
Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path traversing the NDS tree to the
target file.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 95 and Windows 98.
