SYMPTOMS
When you start your Windows 98-based computer, you may be unable to
disable the Welcome To Windows 98 dialog box.
CAUSE
This issue can occur for any of the following reasons:
- Another program starts automatically when you
start your Windows 98-based computer. If this program displays a window
when it starts, this window may cover the Welcome To Windows 98 dialog
box, and this may prevent you from being able to see the "Show this screen
each time Windows 98 starts" check box. Also, even after the program's
window is gone, you may still be unable to see the "Show this screen each
time Windows 98 starts" check box.
- The 3D Objects item in Display properties is set to use white as the font color.
- The Accessibility Options tool is configured to use high contrast.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method.
To configure the Welcome To Windows screen to not start during startup, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click Welcome To Windows.
- Click the "Show this screen each time Windows 98 starts" check box to
clear it, and then close the Welcome To Windows 98 dialog box.
To change the Display properties to use a font color other than white, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display, and then click the Appearance tab.
- In the Item box, click 3D Objects.
- To the right of the Font box, click the color you want in the Color box, and then click OK.
To turn off the Use High Contrast feature in the Accessibility Options tool, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Accessibility Options.
- On the Display tab, click to clear the Use High Contrast check box, and then click OK.
