SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to run the Add New Hardware wizard, the progress indicator may pause at 15 percent and then skip to the end of the hardware detection process without detecting any new hardware.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Sysdetmg.dll file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, extract a new copy of the Sysdetmg.dll from your original Windows 95/98 disks or CD-ROM to the <drive>:\<windows>\system folder, where <drive> is the drive on which Windows 95/98 is installed, and <windows> is the folder in which Windows 95/98 is installed.
