Erratic Mouse Behavior When Docking or Resuming from Standby

SYMPTOMS

If you move the mouse rapidly while the computer is in the process of resuming from a standby state, or immediately after docking or undocking a portable computer, the mouse pointer may begin behaving erratically. The mouse pointer may move in a direction and speed different from the actual mouse, windows and other objects may behave as if they have been clicked even if no mouse buttons are clicked, and other uncontrolled mouse actions may occur.


CAUSE

When the computer is resuming from a standby (suspended) state, the mouse driver may not synchronize properly with the mouse if the mouse is moved rapidly. As a result, movement information from the mouse may be misinterpreted as different movement or as button clicks, and button click information from the mouse may be misinterpreted as movement.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Technical Support to obtain the fix. If you are not severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next service pack that contains this fix.
