SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the trial version of Microsoft Picture It! 2.0 included in the cdsample\demos\pitrial.cd folder on your Windows 98 CD-ROM, you may receive the following error message:

Setup Error 544: Setup is unable to open the data file "<CD-ROM drive letter>:\cdsample\demos\pitrial.cd\acmsetup.stf"; run Setup again from where you originally ran it.

If you then click OK, you may receive the following error message:

Setup Error 723: Setup was unable to read configuration information from the first section of the setup file <CD-ROM drive letter>:\cdsample\demos\pitrial.cd\acmsetup.stf.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you try to install the trial version of Microsoft Picture It! 2.0 by double-clicking the Acmsetup.exe file instead of Setup.exe.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, double-click the Setup.exe file instead of the Acmsetup.exe file.
