Unable to Use Secondary Monitor After Installing ATI Software

SYMPTOMS

When you start your Windows 98-based computer, your secondary monitor may not work correctly, and you may receive the following message:


   If you can read this message, Windows has successfully initialized this
   display adapter. 



   To use this adapter as part of your windows desktop, open the Display
   option in the Control Panel and adjust the settings on the Settings
   tab. 


CAUSE

This issue can occur if you primary video adapter is an ATI All-in-Wonder or ATI All-in-Wonder Pro, and you have installed the Atisetup.exe program. When you install the Atisetup.exe program, it may incorrectly change the video adapter driver for your secondary video adapter, instead of only changing the driver for your ATI All-in-Wonder or ATI All-in-Wonder Pro.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restore the driver for your secondary video adapter. To do so, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.


  2. Click the Settings tab, click the secondary video adapter in the Display box, and then click Advanced.


  3. Click the Adapter tab, and then click Change.


  4. Click Next, and then click "Display a list of all of the drivers in a specific location."


  5. In the Models box, click your secondary video adapter, click Next, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish restoring the driver.

MORE INFORMATION

The Atisetup.exe program replaces the secondary video adapter driver with the ATI 264-VT4 driver if the secondary video adapter is not manufactured by ATI Technologies.
