"Color 2" Box Unavailable When Choosing Active Title Bar Colors

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to change the active title bar color on the Appearance tab in the Display Properties dialog box, you may be able to choose only colors in the Color box. The Color 2 box may be unavailable.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using a color depth of 256 colors or lower.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, increase the color depth to High Color (16 bit) or a higher setting. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Display.


  3. Click the Settings tab.


  4. In the Colors box, click High Color (16 bit) or a higher setting, and then click OK.


  5. When you are prompted to restart your computer or apply the new settings without restarting your computer, click "Apply the new color settings without restarting," and then click OK.
