SYMPTOMS

When you run Windows on a Sony 700 series laptop which uses an SMC IRDA port, you may encounter any of the following issues:

  • You hear unusual sounds emanate from the sound card every three seconds.

  • You receive trap error messages (blue screen) in Irlamp.vxd or Fastir.vxd.

  • You receive trap error messages when you use Infrared Monitor (IRMON) and after you use the suspend or resume features.

  • You may see yellow exclamation points (!) in Device Manager after you use suspend or resume features.

CAUSE

These issues can occur if Device Manager does not use the same settings for the device that the BIOS uses.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Sony and inquire about a BIOS upgrade for your laptop computer.
