Distorted Colors Displayed When Playing Audio or Video on a Web Page

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play audio or video on a Web page, distorted colors may be displayed on your screen.


CAUSE

This problem can occur if Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) for Java version 5.00.315x or later is installed on your computer.


RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, disable the Java Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler by following these steps:

  1. Quit Internet Explorer.


  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  3. Double-click Internet.


  4. Click Advanced.


  5. Under Java VM, click to clear the"Java JIT compiler enabled" check box.


  6. Click OK.


  7. Start Internet Explorer.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
