You Are Able to Enter an Invalid Year Using DATE Command

SYMPTOMS

When you use the DATE command at a command prompt to enter an invalid year from within the following ranges, you may not receive an error message, and a different 4-digit year may appear in the Date/Time tool in Control Panel:

  • Year 19900-20019


  • Year 20480-20580




For example, if you enter a date with the year 19900, the year may be reported as 1980, 19901 may be reported as 1981, and so on.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, change to the correct year in the Date/Time tool in Control Panel.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
