SYMPTOMS

When you try to print from Notepad or WordPad by clicking Print on the File menu, you may receive the following error message:

EED; Paper Problem; Offline; I/O Active; Busy; Printing; Output Bin Full; Not Available.


CAUSE

This error message can occur if the Comdlg32.dll file is corrupted.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the System File Checker tool to extract a copy of the Comdlg32.dll file from the Windows 98 CD-ROM:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type sfc in the Open box, and then click OK.


  2. Click Extract one file from installation disk. Be sure your Windows 98 CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive.


  3. Type comdlg32.dll, and then click Start.


  4. Type cdromdrive:\win98 in the Restore from box, where cdromdrive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.


  5. Type c:\windows\system in the Save file in box.


  6. Click Yes if you are prompted to make a backup copy of the current file.


  7. Restart Windows 98.
