SYMPTOMSWhen you click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the Close Program dialog box, your Windows 98-based computer may stop responding (hang). CAUSEThis behavior can occur if you are using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) mouse. The Close Program dialog box is displayed under the context of the fault thread, and the WDM driver message for button up sent by the USB mouse driver cannot be delivered to the window. RESOLUTIONA supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this
specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next service pack

To work around this issue, press ESC to close the Close Program dialog box instead of clicking the Close button. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Windows 98 Second Edition. MORE INFORMATIONThe fix for this problem removes the Close button from the Close Program dialog box; however, if you attempt to move the window using the title bar, the computer still hangs if you are using a USB mouse.
