Err Msg: Win.com Not Found, Unable to Load Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you install IBM DB2 Universal Database-Personal Edition, you may not be able to restart your computer and you receive the following error message:

Win.com not found, unable to load Windows.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the path statement in the Autoexec.bat file is too long or the %systemroot% variable is truncated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Restart your computer. Press and hold down the CTRL key until you see the Windows 98 Startup menu.

Select Command Prompt Only, and then press ENTER.

Using an MS-DOS-based text editor, edit the Autoexec.bat file.

Type rem at the beginning of the path statement.

Save and close the file, and then restart your computer.
