SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft WebTV for Windows and you scan for channels, you may receive the following error message:
Critical files are missing or corrupted. Please re-install WebTV for Windows.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if all of the following conditions exist:
- Your screen resolution is set to 640 X 480 pixels the first time you scan for channels.
- You alter your screen resolution, and then upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition.
- After the upgrade, you scan for channels again.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, after you upgrade your computer, change your screen resolution to 640 X 480 pixels and then change it to the resolution you want before you scan for channels:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, click WebTV, press F6, and then click Minimize.
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
- Click the Settings tab, move the Screen Area slider to 640 X 480 pixels.
- Click OK, click OK, and then click Yes.
- Double-click Display, click the Settings tab, move the Screen Area slider to the resolution you want.
- Click OK, click OK, and then click Yes.
