You Can Select a Disabled Network Adapter in ICS

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) tool in Windows, you may be able to select a network adapter that is disabled.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, enable the network adpater you want to use, and then reinstall ICS. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel


  2. Double-click System, and then click the Device Manager tab.


  3. Double-click any network device that contains a red X.


  4. Click to clear the Disable In This Hardware Profile check box, and then click OK. Repeat steps 2-3 for each network device that contains a red X.


  5. Close Device Manager.


  6. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  7. On the Windows Setup tab, double-click Internet Tools, and then click to clear the Internet Connection Sharing check box.


  8. Click OK. Click OK again, and then restart Windows.


  9. After Windows restarts, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.


  10. On the Windows Setup tab, double-click Internet Tools, and then click to select the Internet Connection Sharing check box.


  11. Click OK. Click OK again, and then follow the instructions on your screen to set up ICS.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
